Rubicon Genomics is a leader in the development and commercialization of sample-specific pre-analytical processes to improve the performance and capabilities of DNA and RNA platforms for research and clinical testing. Travel up to 30% and reports to the CSO.

Rubicon Genomics’ core competency is the creation of innovation and efficient molecular biology tools for genetic, epigenetic, and expression analysis of difficult clinical samples. These competencies have served as engines for innovation, development of intellectual property, ongoing product development, and a commitment to customer service.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Applications will play a key role in developing new applications for the most innovative nucleic acid library preparation products used in Next-Generation Sequencing of clinical samples. They will be a Rubicon Genomics’ product expert and lead the evaluation and optimization of new applications for the Rubicon Genomics’ products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate and optimize new applications for the Rubicon Genomics’ products
- Lead the Application Group through project management, experimental design, and department goals
- Engage in scientific discussions with customers, cultivate relationships and leverage deep scientific knowledge to identify and understand problems, and provide solutions that utilize Company's technology
- Conduct seminars, product training, webinars and product demonstration and other company related activities
- Delivery of scientific workshops on defined scientific case studies to showcase the value and effectiveness of the Company’s products within the context of the prospect or customer's research
- Provide scientific presentations and compelling pre- sales product demonstration for potential customers within the context of the customer's research field and application
- Support of customers through planned coverage and follow-up of key accounts and prospects to ensure their success in using all of Rubicon Genomics products
- Provide application and technical support to end users including hands-on training and troubleshooting
- Authorship of white papers and application notes to document protocols and performance metrics to meet customer needs to sequence clinical samples for research and diagnostics
- Translate market needs and business strategy requirements into a well-planned and rigorous experimental program to test and optimize use of Rubicon Genomics’ products in critical customer/partner applications
- Work closely with customers to understand their product requirements, and communicate these requirements to the Marketing and R&D teams for inclusion in future product development activities
- Advise Management, R&D, and Marketing on market trends and new product requirements
- Collaborate with marketing team to develop programs to meet key account market needs
- Work closely with Business Development teams to achieve and exceed sales goals, customer expectations and market goals

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read and use manuals, white papers, application notes, internet and journal articles to understand how company’s products and competitor products are utilized for clinical samples (e.g., target capture of interesting parts of the genome)
- Experimentally evaluate and optimize use of different samples and sample isolation methods with Rubicon Genomics’ NGS library products
- Design, plan and execute experiments to evaluate use of different methods to apply Rubicon Genomics’ libraries to NGS and array analysis. Summarize data and analyze results; formulate conclusions and determine future experiments.
- Train on the theoretical and practical basis of techniques, processes, and assays
- Be highly committed and deliver results in a fast-paced environment
- Collaboration and integration with other research, application development and production scientists within the company
- Provides input into filing and prosecution of Rubicon Genomics’ intellectual property.
- Manages budget, timeline, resources of laboratory
- Participate in lab safety, ISO, GMP, or GLP implementation as appropriate; may assume roles of responsibility, such as training or document control

Job Requirements


Education, training, experience:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

- Ph.D. degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or related fields with 5+ years industrial or academic experience
- Demonstrated experience in Next Generation Sequencing technology and applications
- Demonstrated experience in preparation and analysis of DNA and RNA from clinical samples
- Knowledge of molecular biology, nucleic acid chemistry, or enzymology
- Demonstrated ability to communicate well with customers, key opinion leaders as well as technical staff
- Must have excellent technical writing and presentation skills
- Experience supervising technical staff
- Experience with diagnostic applications a plus

PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience with one or more of the next-generation sequencing platforms
- Knowledge of essential laboratory methods such as qPCR, gel electrophoresis, bioanalyzer, DNA quantitation, PCR, NGS
- Experience with Design of Experiments
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast paced environment
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Good organization, interpersonal skills
- High level of integrity and reliability

- Strong leadership skills
- Develop and maintain internal and external customer contacts to improve technical knowledge as required accomplishing job objectives
- Effectively communicate with a variety of audiences including R&D, Manufacturing, Customer Support, Business Development, external partners and customers
